PEACE & LOVE (2007)

2008 published in O Magazine 2009 Exhibited at The New Orleans Museum of Art

In 2007, Shabelewska was commissioned by a collector to create a series inspired by Robert Indiana’s famous LOVE sculptures. For the first time, Shabelewska worked with the digital format in an elaborate production involving 35 models and a 30 feet high crane, shot on March 2, 2008 at the famous Industria SuperStudios in Manhattan. PEACE was created to commemorate on April 4th, 2008 the 50th Anniversary of the famous peace symbol. In June 2008, Oprah Winfrey featured PEACE 5 in O Magazine, p. 179.  In 2009, LOVE 2 was featured in the exhibition The Art of Caring: A Look At Life Through Photography, curated by Dr. Cynthia Goodman for The New Orleans Museum of Art. Established contemporary photographers such as Tina Barney, Nan Goldin, Sally Mann, Duane Michals, Nicolas Nixon, and Annie Leibovitz participated. The exhibition travelled to the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, Cincinnati, OH, The Museum of Art Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, TX. The exhibition was accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue with an extensive essay by Dr. Goodman. LOVE 2 is fully illustrated on p. 134.

PEACE 5 was created to commemorate on April 4th, 2008 the 50th Anniversary of the famous peace symbol. Oprah Winfrey featured PEACE 5 in O Magazine in June 2008, p. 179.
