PEACE & LOVE (2007-2008)

In 2007, Shabelewska was commissioned by a collector to create a series inspired by Robert Indiana’s famous LOVE. For the first time, Shabelewska worked with the digital format in an elaborate production involving models and a 30 feet high crane, shot at the famous Industria SuperStudios in Manhattan. In 2008, Shabelewska created PEACE to commemorate on April 4th, 2008 the 50th Anniversary of the famous symbol. Oprah Winfrey featured PEACE 5 in O Magazine in June 2008, p. 179 and LOVE 2 was featured in 2009 in the exhibition The Art of Caring: A Look At Life Through Photography, curated by Dr. Cynthia Goodman for The New Orlean Museum of Art. Established contemporary photographers such as Tina Barney, Nan Goldin, Sally Mann, Duane Michals, Nicolas Nixon, and Annie Leibovitz participated. The exhibition travelled to the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, Cincinnati, OH, The Museum of Art Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, TX. Accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue with an extensive essay by Dr. Goodman. LOVE 2 is fully illustrated on p. 134.
